BAB Awards
The Belgian Association of Biomechanics (BAB) is committed to recognising scientific excellence, supporting emerging researchers, and celebrating individuals who make an outstanding contribution to the Belgian biomechanics community.
The BAB Awards distinguish achievements at different stages of an academic career, ranging from outstanding student and early-career research presented at the annual BAB Conference to excellence in mentorship and long-standing contributions to biomechanics in Belgium.

Four distinct honours distinguishing scientific excellence, presentation quality, mentorship, and long-standing impact in Belgian biomechanics.
Best Abstract Awards
Recognises outstanding scientific work submitted to and presented at the BAB Conference across Student and Junior Researcher (postdocs < 34) categories. Evaluated on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigour, relevance, and impact.
Best Poster Awards
Recognises excellence in scientific communication during the conference poster session for Students and Junior Researchers (< 34). Evaluated on scientific quality, visual clarity, and the candidate's ability to discuss and defend results.
Excellence in Mentorship
Celebrates a senior member who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to students, PhDs, postdocs, and emerging academics through scientific guidance, knowledge transfer, leadership, and creating opportunities.
Outstanding Contribution
The association's highest recognition of an individual who has made a significant and lasting contribution to the development, visibility, clinical translation, or international standing of biomechanics in Belgium.
Awards Review & Conferral Process
How abstracts, posters, and community nominations are evaluated and awarded at the annual BAB Conference.
Conference Submission
Scientific work and posters are submitted to the annual BAB Conference, alongside calls for mentorship ballots and contribution nominations.
Scientific Review
Submissions are evaluated on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigour, relevance to biomechanics, and potential impact.
Defense & Presentation
Poster candidates are evaluated live during the conference session on presentation clarity and their ability to discuss and defend their research.
Peer & Ballot Voting
Mentorship candidates are nominated via participant voting ballots received upon registration, while contribution dossiers undergo peer evaluation.
Formal Conferral
Laureates receive official BAB Certificates, commemorative trophies, and monetary prizes supported by industrial and institutional sponsors.
